Chase your dreams!

A dear friend shared her reasons behind jumping on the entrepreneur bandwagon and why she’s there to stay!!

If you follow my site, this may look familiar. Well, I’m reposting it with new information. Since April, there has been an update in Makiea’s entrepreneurial lifestyle…further encouragement for you to continue reaching for the sky!

I got involved with Stella & Dot because I wanted to actually start controlling my own life. What I mean by that is I’ve worked in corporate America for far too long and for far too many people other than myself. It was time to make a change.

After some serious soul searching on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, thinking about it not only made me sad, but I felt lost. At the age of 30, I literally had no idea what I wanted to do with myself. I prayed and cried and then God reminded me of the creative seed he planted in me long ago. Then little old me told God He was crazy and I’m getting too “old” to be chasing child hood dreams and I kept it pushing with my miserable everyday 8-5.

Little did I know, God already had my exit strategy brewing. I got fired! And let me tell you, I’ve never been happier, more peaceful, and more clairvoyant in my life. I kind of felt that it was coming so I prayed and asked God that whatever he does, just don’t make the money stop (I have a family to take care of). My prayers were answered and it ended up being a win-win situation. Not only did the money not stop, I now have more time to spend with my daughter (who by the way had started calling me Daddy because that’s how much time she was spending with him and not me). My husband is very grateful to have switched roles where I’m the stay at home parent and he’s going out to work. He held us down for an entire year as Super Husband & Daddy and did not complain! Not. One. Time. I’m grateful I have time to build my business; and it’s building fast!

This outfit was created through Makiea’s polyvore featuring a ring and earrings from Stella & Dot.

Now on to my business: I am an independent stylist for Stella & Dot. I specialize in boutique-style, handcrafted jewelry. My jewelry and handbags are only available online & through private trunk shows. The earnings from Stella & Dot has afforded me the opportunity to launch my interior design business Makiea Montgomery Interior Design. I’ve worked for architectural firms for over seven years and I’ve finally branched out on my own. I specialize in designing workspaces for small business owners although my design services are for anyone and any space. This is my life dream. I plan to become a brand over the next ten years. I want the sophisticated, functional, and efficient design to be synonymous with Makiea Montgomery. Creating my own brand is something I’ve dreamt of for years. A lot of people will know what I mean. A lot of us dream of having our own businesses one day, but I feel like I’m finally at the stage where I’m ready to follow this dream. When I start my brand, I know it’s going to be difficult, but I’ve got friends who are already giving me advice to make sure my business succeeds. One of them recently told me to contact Victorious for help with my online marketing when I start. Apparently, they can implement some SEO services to help me rank higher on search engines, helping more people to find my website. That was a really helpful bit of advice that I’m going to keep in mind. I need to start my brand first though! When I do start my brand, I know that I will need to appeal to various audiences that I want to connect with, there will be a lot of work put in, but it will be completely worth it to see my brand grow and become something that I can build on. Doing trade shows and events will help spread that brand awareness, creating branded pens, Custom Water, etc. will get the word out and open myself up to whoever is interested. It is an exciting time.
