Those words are from the twitter page of Jasmine Waiters, Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball player, who was encouraged to record her poem about US Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas.
The video went viral and even earned a feature on ESPN.

It’s an old, tired, never-should’ve-been-news-story story, so I just know that you caught wind of the ridiculous chatter of the ratchets regarding Gabby Douglas. I don’t repost nonsense, so you won’t see a mention of tweets or facebook posts from those who only post foolishness. And yes, even a month later, I’m still feeling a certain way about the way women treat one another. Just because this situation happened to Gabby doesn’t mean it’s brand new. At the end of the day, women need to support women.
I’m curious if those who were hating have a gold medal and endorsements…probably not, huh?
WOMEN OF COLOR definitely need to support fellow women of color. Why throw shade on a teenager accomplishing her goals? When is the last time someone did a photo shoot in front of millions while going their hardest in the gym and doing their most important workout ever? Oh, never? That’s what I thought!
Be the change you want to see in the world. It starts with YOU!
