Hey there! My name is Adelaide Paffen and I’m 17 years old. I was born and raised and also live in Germany, Hamburg.

I started my natural hair journey not long ago. I transitioned 5 months before doing my Big Chop on the 27th of July 2013 and let me tell you something, it was the best decision I’ve ever made! Before going natural my hair was always pretty long and thick when I was younger. Then at the age of 12, I remember my hair falling out after getting a relaxer. From then on my hair had always been shoulder length and very thin; almost see-through. So after researching what was wrong with my hair I found out, that my hair would never be thick again if I didn´t stop relaxing it. So I started to transition. Sadly here in Germany a lot of girls still relax their hair a lot and there are barely any girls without relaxed hair that are black but thankfully I have some natural-haired friends in the US, who have always helped me and encouraged me to love my hair and stay away from the creamy crack. So as I said: Returning to natural was the best way to go for me. YouTubers like Mahogany Curls, Naptural85, LHDC-TV, and KInkyStyles1980 definitely did a great job in inspiring me and encouraging me to go natural.

In the winter time I like to wear protective styles, not only because of the weather but also because I tend to play alot with my hair and we know that too much manipulation is bad for coily hair. I love wearing braids. It´s like braids all day everyday. Big and neat, that’s how I love ’em.

Going natural definitely did much more than change the state of my hair. I changed my diet, learned about Black (hair) history, and started hitting the gym 4 times a week. So all in all it helped me achieve a healthier lifestyle and also made me eduacte myself about my roots – I’m still working towards a better me.

Recently I have created a Facebook-Page for natural hair called “Redefinition of Good Hair” and have also posted alot of tips and tricks about how to care for natural hair for my German folks. I want to encourage not only my friends and relatives but also other people to go natural. I have also started a YouTube Channel mostly about natural hair, Black History, beauty, and other stuff.

I’m also much of a fashion-addict and me and my boyfriend are going to make fashion videos for our Youtube Channel real soon. It’s very difficult to describe my style because it’s always different. Sometimes I like it classy, sometimes bohemian-inspired, other times street-style or FIERCE; the list goes on and on. So if you want to see what I’m talking about I definitely suggest you to hit me up on my Youtube Channel called “New Fashion Era”.
