On April 15, 2014 one of the natural hair community’s most loved and respected YouTube bloggers, Meechy Monroe, suffered an unexplained stroke. This would be the first of three consecutive strokes and two brain surgeries over the next three months of her life that threatened to change everything. This is her story.

Meechy began sharing her natural hair journey with her, now, thousands of online subscribers and followers in the Fall of 2010. Her goal has always been to help others along their self-seeking quests by way of inspiration and countless step-by-step online video tutorials for hair care and styling.

She and her sister, MsVaughnTV, have honed themselves a natural hair duo called “The Monroe Sisters” having traveled together all over the United States and parts of Europe sharing their enthusiasm around embracing the beauty of natural hair.

Meechy’s momentum was cut short on May 31, 2014 when she was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma (or vascular cancerous tumor) in her brain. The tumor caused Meechy to suffer multiple mild strokes, which have led to certain physical and speech challenges including an Aphasia diagnosis (a disturbance of the delivery of language – not at all linked to a loss of intelligence).

On May 30th 2014, Meechy underwent her first of two brain surgeries. It was this craniotomy which actually revealed the tumor. In preparation for the procedure, rather than lose her hair, she had it carefully shaved, preserved and donated to Locks of Love—a not-for-profit organization which focuses on Cancer patients coping with hair loss.

Thanks to neurosurgeons and the miracle of brain surgery, after her second brain surgery on July 3, 2014, she is making drastic improvements with the help of physical, occupational and speech therapy and currently awaiting the next phase of her treatment—radiation and chemo therapy.

As usual Meechy is very optimistic and has been blessed with an amazing team of renowned Surgeons, Oncologists and Nurses whom are walking closely with her on the road to recovery with God leading the way!

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8

Meechy hopes that you will share in her recovery by following her story on her blog for weekly updates. She hopes that you will join her family and friends cheering her along as she fights the toughest battle of her life!
