Do you have a regimen?

Shelly of Glam Natural Life shared about her regimen:

As you continue on your hair journey you will realize that your natural hair regimen tends to change from time to time. We bloggers stress that you should find a system and stick to it. But, while this is true we are not prisoners to our hair care routine. The basics should be the same but you can experiment. Its your hair and journey after all isn’t it? Enjoy it!
Ok, let me share my hair care regimen with you (in a nutshell) – lol! This is what I do and what works for me. You do not have to do this but you should experiment and see what work for you.

Pre-poo (every two weeks):

I like oils that are easily absorbed into dry hair; so, I opt for coconut oil. Also, honey is one of my favorite natural humectants and preservative. I know you are not to use humectants in dry winter but all year round honey is good to me. Hence why I stress ‘know what your hair needs’.

Prepare (measure according to length of hair):
Coconut oil
Cheap conditioner (for added slip)
(Mix together until it’s smooth and apply tips to roots. Massage scalp, twist and pin away. Continue until the hair is done. Leave in for about 30 minutes.)

Cleanse (once a week):

I only use sulfate free shampoos. This is because it doesn’t strip the hair of the natural oils we secrete or strip away all of our pre-poo work. My favorite shampoo is Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Shampoo or the Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo. They leave my hair soft and clean.

Condition (once a week):

After cleansing I condition with a deep conditioner or my deep conditioner mix.

Favorite Deep Conditioners:
Aubrey Organics Balance Conditioner
Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque
My Deep Conditioner mix:
Tresseme Naturals Condition or any Herbal Essence Conditioner
Jamaican Black Castor Oil or Olive Oil
(Mix – Apply – Leave on for 15 to 30mins)

After a cleanse:
I first squeeze as much water as possible out of my hair. I always moisturize using the LOC method. (Liquid first then Oil then Cream).
  • I divide my hair into 6 sections and apply my leave in of choice to moisturize my hair. Right now my 2 favorite leave-ins are the Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk and the Karens Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia leave-in.
  • I apply my oil of choice to seal that moisture in. My mom brought me a bottle of black castor oil from Jamaica so that is what I am using right now. I have been dying to get some real black castor to seal my hair and make it stronger. Thanks mommy! Lol!
  • I further moisturize and seal in all that goodness with a water based cream moisturizer or butter. This also masks the smell of the castor oil.
Spritz with water  and re-moisturize if needed.

Style with style cream or Gel. I rock braid outs most of the time or Twist&Curl styles. I am not a lover of gel but I use a little or use Taliah Waajid Curl Cream before braiding or twisting.
